On this particular occasion, my work team and I had a team bonding half-day and decided to spend it wining and dining at the gallery and getting cultured by checking out the paintings and art.
I enjoyed a lovely strawberry, white balsamic and orange house-made soda ($6.50) while we waited for our meals and was impressed by the large wine and drinks list, featuring options such as lychee or blueberry bellinis and 11 types of beers and cider.
Two members of the group ordered the delicious char grilled sirloin with brussel sprouts and a sweet and spicy chutney ($36). The meat was well cooked and the vegetables were colourful and beautifully plated. The chutney added a splash of red and some spice.
The fashionista of the group enjoyed the fish and chips ($29) which were, again, a very generous serving , although I would have liked to see a little lightly dressed rocket on the side.
My friend ordered burnt butter gnocchi with zucchini flowers ($28). The dish was like a piece of artwork itself, beautifully presented and sprinkled with vibrant colour and pillows of cushiony gnocchi. There were plenty of zucchini flowers and I tried some of the gnocchi and found it to be absolutely delicious; well cooked and tasty.
I tried the pan-fried Cone Bay barramundi with fennel ($34). The barramundi was well cooked and the skin was crispy and well-seasoned. The coloured vegetables were tasty and cooked to the bite.
We also ordered a side of steamed greens with chilli and lemon ($11) and hand-cut chips with truffle aioli ($9) to share. The vegetables were well cooked and vibrant and the chips were very moreish and great with the tasty aioli.
For dessert I ordered a tasty chocolate mousse cake ($16) which had some beautiful, perfect layers of raspberry, cake and mousse inside. I really enjoyed the dessert although it was very rich and I would not recommend it for those who do not have a sweet tooth. The tart cream on the side freshened the palate a little, although some fresh berries would have been great!
Some of the other girls enjoyed the berry frangipane tart ($16) which was beautifully presented, with sliced berries on top and a scoop of ice cream on the side. The cake was moist and nutty, and not too sweet or dense.
I also enjoyed a cup of English Breakfast tea in a lovely vintage tea cup. Overall, a great place to dine with just about anyone. Fantastic views, good food, and I definitely recommend the desserts.

Chiswick Top Restaurants Atmosphere
Upon arrival at the magnificent Art Gallery of NSW building, we were greeted by a beautiful installation of cross-stitch circles, suspended from the ceiling. After admiring for a while, we continued through to the back of the ground floor and were seated at a large table in the middle of a very open, light and airy room. I loved the simple, modern design and the casual, elegant feel of the space; it’s the perfect spot for a work lunch and I imagine the view would also be pretty spectacular at night. The room had two walls worth of windows, a bar on one side, and an interesting piece of 3D art on the fourth wall.Chiswick Top Restaurants Service
Despite the fact that some pretty well-known chefs have put their names to this restaurant, I was pretty disappointed with the service. Although our orders were taken quickly and the food was brought out on time and plates cleared promptly, we felt that the staff were not very attentive and did make small talk or fill up our water glasses or ask if we wanted another drink. They were efficient but did not go that extra mile and go out of their way to be friendly.I enjoyed a lovely strawberry, white balsamic and orange house-made soda ($6.50) while we waited for our meals and was impressed by the large wine and drinks list, featuring options such as lychee or blueberry bellinis and 11 types of beers and cider.
