Last weekend I got away for Presidents Day to go skiing in Lake Tahoe and spend a night or two in San Francisco as well. We took a trip to Lake Tahoe & San Francisco on a bright and sunny Sunday morning. The skiing was phenomenal perfect conditions and not too crowded. I also had a good time with my friends off the slopes as well, both enjoying the nightlife around Truckee and Tahoe City as well as back in San Francisco. In Lake Tahoe we particularly had a lot of fun at Caliente, a Mexican restaurant that serves a cocktail called “La Chupacabra” that packs quite the punch. In San Francisco we were pretty much all over the place, but usually in the Mission area I believe.
Ski Area Lake Tahoe
This was my first time to Tahoe, and I was lucky to be able to crash with some friends at their ski house. Even so, I took the time to explore the local hotels and resorts to see where the best places to stay might be The Grand Residences by Marriott Luxury Lake Tahoe Resort is a cool concept, located in Heavenly Village and offering vacation rentals that are basically like timeshares, perfect for groups and families. Marriott’s Timber Lodge is very similiar, so I’d compare them both to see who has the better rates & amenities when booking a trip.
Start Moving To San Fransisco
Next we drove back to San Francisco, about a three hour drive which isn’t bad at all. On the way home we were sure to check out the Vista point along the 101 overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge and city of San Francisco – it was stunning with 360 degree views of downtown San Francisco, the Marina area, Alcatraz, the Golden Gate bridge, and beautiful bay waters:
Again, I was lucky enough to stay with friends, but on previous trips I’ve stayed at the Fisherman’s Wharf Hotel (perfect for seeing touristy stuff), the JW Marriott Hotel in Union Square (great location, super luxurious), as well as the new Renaissance Nob Hill hotel (chic, refined and in a very ritzy area). And of course, if you’re a baller and don’t mind spending a little extra money on where you stay, you simply cannot beat Ritz-Carlton service and style, so their San Francisco Luxury Hotel is a great choice if you want to stay in the Union Square/Downtown area. I won’t even begin to make suggestions on where to eat and go out, as the city is just overwhelmed with awesome options. My recommendation is to make friends with a local and have them take you out, as they’re going to know what the best places to go are depending on what part of the city you’re in and what kind of place you’re in the mood for. San Francisco takes their food and drink very seriously, so it’s pretty hard to find a restaurant that is going to disappoint.
